Virginia Business featured McGuireWoods in an Oct. 30, 2023, article about how the commonwealth’s largest businesses are adopting artificial intelligence tools and creating AI training policies and processes for their employees.
McGuireWoods is incorporating new AI tools to enhance client service, the article noted. The firm uses CoCounsel, which helps attorneys with tasks like drafting a discovery response or brainstorming deposition questions. McGuireWoods managing partner J. Tracy Walker IV explained to Virginia Business that CoCounsel can, for example, read and summarize all of an expert witness’ published papers on a topic.
Peter Geovanes, the firm’s chief innovation and AI officer, said McGuireWoods is testing hypothetical uses of CoCounsel with a group of about 40 attorneys. He also is training lawyers on AI’s technical, ethical and legal considerations. The firm will expand testing and training in early 2024, Geovanes told the magazine.
