McGuireWoods Taps Pittsburgh Partner as New Department Chair

June 17, 2010

McGuireWoods LLP announced today that Leonard Marsico, a partner in its Pittsburgh office, has been named the new chair of the firm’s Complex Commercial Litigation Department. He will be responsible for the firm-wide department that has attorneys in seven offices across the country. He succeeds Melissa Glassman, a partner in the firm’s Tysons Corner office who was recently elected to the firm’s board of partners and appointed to the Executive Committee.

Marsico, who joined the firm in 2002, focuses on a variety of commercial litigation matters, with cases involving energy, transactional, securities, insurance coverage and general corporate litigation. He has litigated actions and arbitrations on behalf of clients in more than 25 states and before several foreign arbitration tribunals. He also provides general corporate counsel to many of his business clients.

His clients include energy producers, publicly traded manufacturers, financial institutions, corporate holding companies, and large family and trust-owned entities. Marsico has also served as head of the firm’s coal team, a cross-departmental group of attorneys who provide integrated, coal-related legal services to coal producers, coal transporters, utilities and service providers to the coal industry. As department chair, he will continue actively representing clients and serving as a senior Hearing Committee member for the Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.

“We are grateful that Len has taken on this responsibility with our firm,” said Tom Cabaniss, managing partner for McGuireWoods. “He is not only a skilled attorney, but a proven leader whose experience in handling a wide variety of litigation matters will serve his department well.”
