October 17, 2011

McGuireWoods LLP announced today that it is a proud sponsor of the American Diabetes Association’s (ADA) Chicagoland Tour de Cure cycling event, which will be held in Wheaton, Ill., on June 10, 2012. As part of the law firm’s effort to help fight diabetes, it will also participate in the association’s Step Out Chicago walk later this week.

Step Out Chicago will be held on Saturday, Oct. 22, at Soldier Field’s Great Lawn. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. and the walk begins at 10 a.m. The 3.2-mile walk will line the Chicago lakefront shore.

“Millions of people around the world are dealing with this life-altering disease,” said Amy Manning, a partner in McGuireWoods’ Chicago office and chairman-elect of the American Diabetes Association’s Chicago Community Leadership Board. Her term is effective Jan. 1. “We are honored to take part in the American Diabetes Association’s charity events and look forward to contributing to its fight to stop diabetes.”

Diabetes is a disease in which the body does not produce or properly use insulin, a hormone that is needed to convert sugar, starches and other food into energy. According to the ADA, nearly 26 million people in the United States are diagnosed with diabetes.

The ADA is a nonprofit charity fighting against diabetes and its deadly consequences. Step Out Chicago is part of a series of ADA charity walks that aim to raise awareness and donations to stop diabetes. Volunteers and walkers are needed.

Chicagoland Tour de Cure is part of a series of fundraising cycling events held in 44 states nationwide to benefit the ADA. The Tour is a ride, not a race, with routes designed for everyone from the occasional rider to the experienced cyclist. For more information, visit www.diabetes.org
