In a story published Aug. 3, the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin reported that McGuireWoods was one of five law firms recognized by Equality Illinois for its increased strength and commitment to LGBT equality. Equality Illinois is the state’s largest organization advocating for equal rights for LGBT people, according to its executive director Bernard Cherkasov, a former McGuireWoods associate.
The story quotes partner Richard Greenberg, who accepted the award on behalf of the firm. He said the firm works hard to create an environment of mutual respect: “A significant part of that focus is our commitment to the LGBT community and its lawyers. We want to make sure as with everyone (else), LGBT lawyers are recruited, mentored appropriately (and) given appropriate support and opportunities to advance.”
