George Martin is one of two recipients of the prestigious Raven Award for the 2015-2016 academic year from the Raven Society at the University of Virginia, of which George is an alumnus. The Raven Society has sought over the years to honor and promote superior academic and extracurricular achievement. In 1933, the society began presenting the Raven Award, which recognizes students, administrators and alumni for their scholarly pursuits and their dedication to university ideals. The award recognizes lifetime achievement and is the highest honor that the Raven Society bestows on an individual. As the oldest and most prestigious honor society at the University of Virginia, dating back to 1904, the Raven Society is named for the famous poem of former UVA student Edgar Allen Poe. The award will be presented on Thursday, Nov. 19, in the Special Collections Library on Grounds. A black-tie dinner and celebration for the Raven Award winners will take place in April.
