McGuireWoods partner George Spatz was honored by client MillerCoors as its Outside Counsel of the Year for 2018 in recognition of his outstanding service to the company.
Spatz, whose practice focuses on intellectual property and technology litigation, with an emphasis on software development, licensing and ownership disputes, received the award at the brewer’s Chicago headquarters on Feb. 5.
The annual honor recognizes the outside lawyer who delivers superior legal service while advancing MillerCoors’ business goals. Criteria include legal acumen and advice, innovative solutions, timeliness, commitment to MillerCoors and value.
“For me, the greatest reward is to be part of the MillerCoors team and to work through issues and challenges together. To receive this unexpected honor is humbling and I truly appreciate it,” Spatz said.
In paying tribute to Spatz, MillerCoors’ executives said he made their jobs easier by providing thoughtful legal analysis and working closely with the company’s business team to achieve their objectives.
“George does an excellent job explaining complex technical matters to the lawyers and keeping the legal team updated with timely communication. He’s a superb listener, he’s patient, he’s respectful and we love working with him,” said MillerCoors chief legal officer Kelly Grebe.
