McGuireWoods Richmond partner Charles Menges received the prestigious Allen C. Goolsby Legislative Advocacy Award from the Virginia Bar Association Jan. 24 during its 130th annual meeting in Williamsburg.
Menges is the fourth recipient of the award, established in 2011 to recognize outstanding service in promoting the association’s legislative agenda. According to one of his nominators, Menges “has devoted hours of tireless work to the modernization of and refinement of the Virginia Code as it relates to the practice of real estate law.”
Menges is an experienced transactional lawyer who handles sophisticated real estate, finance and other types of transactions for clients throughout the United States, including Fortune 500 companies, private equity funds, institutional lenders and real estate investment trusts. A VBA Life Member with more than four decades of continuous membership, Menges chairs the VBA’s Legal Opinions Committee and was a principal drafter of the “Virginia Report on Third-Party Legal Opinions in Business Transactions.” In addition, he has testified at the Virginia General Assembly in support of the VBA’s legislative agenda.
Menges is a fellow of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers, and The Best Lawyers in America named him Richmond’s “Lawyer of the Year” for real estate law.
“It is a tremendous honor to be recognized by my peers for helping advance the Virginia Bar Association’s priorities in the General Assembly. I am grateful to my McGuireWoods colleagues for their support,” Menges said.
