McGuireWoods Partner Jon Finger Honored as Legal Innovator By Texas Lawyer

September 18, 2020

McGuireWoods partner Jon Finger was recognized as a legal innovator in Texas Lawyer’s 2020 Texas Legal Awards issue for his role leading the firm’s nationwide initiative to connect independent sponsors with capital partners for specific private equity deals.

McGuireWoods’ independent sponsor program is a first-of-its-kind law firm enterprise that connects independent sponsors with capital partners, senior executives and other market participants in a pioneering private equity deal-sourcing ecosystem. Under Finger’s guidance, the initiative sponsors networking groups throughout the country for independent sponsors and family offices focused on direct investments.

Finger also oversees McGuireWoods’ Independent Sponsor Conference, the country’s largest event not held by a “for profit” organizer, which brings together members of the industry to share best practices, strategies and deal leads.

“I am proud to work with a talented team of lawyers and business development professionals across the firm to institutionalize and implement our unique deal-sourcing initiative,” Finger said. “It is rewarding to be part of a framework that allows McGuireWoods to be recognized as the leading law firm for independent sponsor transactions.”

Finger, who focuses his practice on private equity and corporate transactional matters, is an established thought leader on independent sponsor transactions. He was honored as a “Texas Trailblazer” by Texas Lawyer in 2019 and as an “M&A Trailblazer” by The National Law Journal. He also has been recognized by Chambers USA and Legal 500 US as a pre-eminent adviser to participants in independent sponsor transactions across industries.
