McGuireWoods Richmond partner
Diane Flannery has been selected as one of Virginia Lawyers Weekly’s “Influential
Women of Law” for 2021. The recognition honors outstanding women lawyers
and judges who are making a difference in the profession and in their
communities. Recipients will be celebrated at an online awards program July
Flannery, chair of McGuireWoods’ Products, Environmental & Mass Tort
Litigation Department, is an accomplished litigator and has tried complex,
high-profile product liability cases in federal and state courts. She has
organized and managed large-scale defenses in class action and
multidistrict litigation, handled emotionally charged severe injury and
death cases, and advised clients on punitive damages, product recalls and
matters before the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
Flannery is active in her community and has served on a variety of boards,
including the board of trustees for the Richmond Chamber of Commerce. She
also is a member of the Historic Richmond Council, Junior League of
Richmond and Impact 100, which provides transformative grants to Richmond
nonprofit organizations to improve the community.
“I am honored to be a part of this prestigious group of distinguished women
lawyers and am grateful to my McGuireWoods colleagues for their support and
their dedication to serving our clients,” Flannery said.
In recognition of her exceptional work, Flannery also was named
Product Liability Attorney of the Year by Euromoney’s Legal Media Group in 2020. In addition, she is a fellow of
the Litigation Counsel of America, an invitation-only trial lawyer honorary
society composed of less than one half of one percent of American lawyers.
“We are very proud of Diane’s remarkable successes leading complex
litigation matters nationally for our clients,” said Dion Hayes, McGuireWoods’ deputy managing partner for litigation. “As chair of our
Products, Environmental & Mass Tort Litigation Department, she sets a
standard of excellence that every McGuireWoods lawyer strives to achieve.”
