McGuireWoods invites you and your colleagues to attend Tom Spahn’s annual ethics program. This interactive discussion uses hypotheticals to highlight the dramatic effect email, texts and other electronic communications can have on lawyers’ ethics duties.

The program generally follows the lifespan of an attorney-client relationship, examining the ethical implications of potential scenarios along the way:

  • Creation of the relationship
  • Ethical propriety of electronic communications with clients
  • Communications with adversaries
  • Dealing with third parties
  • Discovery
  • Jurors’ research and communications
  • Judges’ research and “friending” of lawyers
  • Termination of attorney-client relationships
