London managing partner Daniel Peyton was quoted July 6 in the United Kingdom’s leading online human resources newsletter, Personnel Today, on how employers in the UK should reassure jittery employees after June’s shocking Brexit vote.
Peyton, a leading lawyer whose practice covers all aspects of English employment law, advised employers against vague or “empty” messages to employees in the unsettled aftermath of last month’s referendum to leave the European Union. The vote has roiled global financial markets, particularly those in the UK.
“Simply saying we’ll do what we can and it’s business as usual for the time being is not the most valuable message to send,” he told Personnel Today. He advised employers not to misrepresent what they can or can’t do or overcommit “to the point where that message could be used to back up an unfair dismissal, discrimination or breach of contract claim.”
