The American Lawyer Quotes McGuireWoods’ Peter Geovanes on Firms’ Gen AI Use

January 31, 2024

Generative AI is proving its usefulness as a way for law firms to enhance productivity, McGuireWoods’ chief innovation and AI officer Peter Geovanes told The American Lawyer in a Jan. 29, 2024, story.

The publication surveyed Am Law 100 firms to find out how they use generative AI and 41 confirmed they employ such tools.

Geovanes said McGuireWoods began piloting several use cases for generative AI-powered legal work in September 2023, with attorneys testing Casetext CoCounsel.

Geovanes told The American Lawyer that legal research is the “common denominator” for generative AI use by litigators and dealmakers because it is the most readily available use that presents “immediate benefits.”
