The Parliament of the United Kingdom is considering making major changes to its laws protecting whistleblowers, and employers in the U.K. will need to be prepared, McGuireWoods London partner Francesca Titus wrote in a July 3, 2025, article in Personnel Today.
A private member’s bill making its way through the House of Commons would establish an independent Office of the Whistleblower to protect individuals who report wrongdoing. An All-Party Parliamentary Group report found the existing law has failed to protect whistleblowers or the public from harm, noted Titus.
“If the Office is created, it will lead to changes in how organisations deal with whistleblowers who may choose to report it there rather than internally,” Titus wrote. “Many organisations will now need to ensure they have robust internal protections for those wishing to make disclosures and will need to revisit existing policies and procedures.”
