McGuireWoods LLP announced today that Christina Egan, former deputy chief assistant United States attorney in Chicago, has joined the firm as a partner in its Government, Regulatory and Criminal Investigations Department (GRCI). Egan will focus her practice on representing companies and individuals in matters dealing with criminal and civil investigations, by the government as well as by federal and state regulators.

For the past 10 years, Egan has been an assistant U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Illinois and has tried more than 20 cases, including multiple cases involving racketeering, public corruption, fraud and narcotics trafficking. For the past four years, Egan has served as a deputy chief assistant U.S. attorney in Chicago, supervising a team of attorneys on numerous cases, including racketeering, major cartel gang investigations and prosecutions.

“In today’s world, corporations are looking for guidance and counseling related to a new wave of regulation and governmental scrutiny,” said Richard Cullen, chairman of McGuireWoods. “Christina comes to McGuireWoods with a wealth of experience and a sterling reputation. We are very pleased to have her join our firm.”

“When I looked at returning to private practice, I wanted to make sure I found a firm with the same culture of collegiality and a dedication to the practice of law that I experienced at the U.S. Attorneys office, and I was fortunate to find that at McGuireWoods.” said Egan. “Both the firm and its GRCI group have an excellent reputation and I’m looking forward to helping to grow that practice here in Chicago and throughout the Midwest.”

“We are excited to welcome Christina to McGuireWoods,” said Chuck McIntyre, chair of the firm’s GRCI department. “Her many years of courtroom experience and impressive record of trial wins will be a great asset for our clients, not just in Chicago, but across the country as well.”

Prior to joining the U.S. attorney’s office, Egan was in private practice in Chicago, where she handled a number of litigation matters, including a variety of commercial litigation cases such as securities fraud and accountant liability cases as well as criminal health care fraud. She is also a former clerk to the Hon. John F. Grady of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. She graduated from the University of Michigan in 1991 and received her J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law.
