McGuireWoods London Teams to Cycle 2,000 Miles, Raise £2,000 to Help Women Jump-Start Careers

March 2, 2017

Four McGuireWoods London teams will bicycle the equivalent of 2,000 miles from March 6-10 to raise a total of at least £2,000 (about $2,460 U.S.) for Smart Works, a UK charity that helps job-seeking women be their best in interviews.

McGuireWoods’ Women Lawyers Network, in celebration of International Women’s Day on March 8, is helping raise money and awareness for Smart Works, which provides high-quality professional clothing and interview training for women in need. Looking the part, feeling confident and armed with practical skills, program participants have succeeded in employment interviews and started new chapters of their lives.

With their participation in Spin for Smart Works, each McGuireWoods five-member team will log at least 500 miles (100 miles per participant). Some will put in their average 20 miles per day by bicycling to and from work, while others will use stationary bikes at two London gyms — Anytime Fitness St Paul’s and Virgin Active Aldersgate — that have lent their facilities to support the cause. The total distance represents the combined distance between all Smart Works sites across the UK.

Those who wish to donate money can visit the McGuireWoods London Just Giving page, where regular updates on the teams’ efforts will be posted.
