Kenneth D. Bell, a partner in McGuireWoods’ Charlotte, North Carolina, office, has been nominated by President Donald Trump for a federal judgeship.
If confirmed by the Senate, Bell would join the U.S. District Court for the Western District of North Carolina, where he worked for 18 years as a federal prosecutor, including 10 as first assistant U.S. attorney. U.S. Sens. Richard Burr and Thom Tillis of North Carolina recommended Bell for the bench.
“I am deeply honored that President Trump has nominated me to serve the people of the Western District of North Carolina, and I am grateful to Sens. Burr and Tillis for recommending me to the president,” Bell said.
“Ken’s many years as a superb trial lawyer and federal prosecutor, along with his acumen and integrity, will serve him – and the people of North Carolina’s Western District – very well as a U.S. district judge,” said McGuireWoods Chairman Jonathan P. Harmon. “He’s an excellent choice.”
A member of McGuireWoods’ nationally recognized Government Investigations & White Collar Litigation Department, Bell has served since 2012 as the court-appointed receiver in the ZeekRewards Ponzi scheme, which involved more individual victims than any other in U.S. history. In that role, Bell helped recover approximately $371 million and returned nearly $345 million to victims of the scheme.
Bell joined McGuireWoods in 2009, where his practice focuses on matters involving white collar litigation and business-related investigations. As a prosecutor, he had trial responsibility for more than 200 criminal cases and was counsel of record in more than 100 cases before the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
