McGuireWoods Baltimore partner Alan Cason has been honored as one of The Daily Record’s 2020 Influential Marylanders. Cason earned the accolade for advising several municipalities in major development deals that are changing the landscape of the state and for giving back to those communities through volunteer work.

Cason serves on McGuireWoods’ executive committee, the leadership group responsible for the firm’s strategic direction. He also is a member of the firm’s board of partners.

Influential Marylanders recognizes individuals for significant contributions in their fields, including law, civic leadership, communications, education, finance, business, healthcare, philanthropy, real estate and technology. In addition to Cason, this year’s honorees include Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, the National Football League’s 2019 Most Valuable Player.

“I am honored to be included with distinguished business and community leaders who do so much to make Maryland a great place to work and live,” Cason said.

As bond counsel, Cason assisted Baltimore City and Howard County in a pair of major development deals — the Port Covington project and the revitalization of downtown Columbia. He served as bond counsel and transaction counsel for Baltimore City in connection with its publicly financed, publicly owned Hilton Baltimore convention center hotel adjacent to Orioles Park, and he represented the National Harbor resort project developer with infrastructure financing. Cason also was instrumental in helping Prince George’s County and a developer relocate the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services headquarters to Camp Springs, Maryland.

Cason is the immediate past chair of the Y of Central Maryland’s board of directors and is a member of its executive committee. He also served as president of the University of Maryland Alumni Association and is a board member of the University System of Maryland Foundation and the Terrapin Development Company.

“We are extremely proud of Alan for this much-deserved recognition,” said Baltimore office managing partner Cecil Martin. “He is a sought-after trusted adviser on financing major economic development projects, and a leader and mentor in our firm and the community.”
