McGuireWoods’ Timothy Doherty to Join AES Clean Energies

November 11, 2021

Timothy Doherty, an associate in McGuireWoods’ Charlotte office, will join AES Clean Energies, the renewable development arm of AES Corp., on Nov. 15, 2021, as senior counsel. Doherty will focus on project finance at AES Clean Energies, including project development and acquisitions. His last day at the firm is Nov. 12.

Doherty joined McGuireWoods’ M&A and Energy Transactional Department in September 2018. He advised project sponsors, lenders and tax equity investors in the development and financing of power, oil and gas, renewable energy and infrastructure projects. He helped clients finance wind projects, utility-scale and residential solar projects, transmission lines, battery storage and natural gas pipelines, liquefaction facilities and power plants in various stages of development, from initial bid through financial close and into commercial operation.

“It has been a pleasure working with such great colleagues over the past three years, from finance to mergers and acquisitions,” Doherty said. “I hope to cross paths again soon.”

“Our clients have benefited greatly from Tim’s legal work and he will be missed. We wish him great success at AES Clean Energies,” said Richmond partner Mike Woodard, chair of the M&A and Energy Transactional Department.

“Tim’s contributions to the energy transactional practice have made him a valuable member of McGuireWoods. AES Clean Energies is fortunate to have him on its team,” said Baltimore partner and energy industry team leader Brian Kelly. “We wish Tim all the best.”
