Dion Hayes, Heidi Siegmund Honored as ‘Leaders in the Law’ by Virginia Lawyers Weekly

September 15, 2022

McGuireWoods deputy managing partner Dion Hayes and associate Heidi Siegmund have been honored by Virginia Lawyers Weekly for their leadership and outstanding contributions to the practice of law in Virginia.

Hayes, the firm’s deputy managing partner for litigation, was named to VLW’s 2022 “Leaders in the Law,” the newspaper’s signature honor for attorneys who have made important contributions to the legal profession.

As chair of McGuireWoods’ Restructuring & Insolvency Department from 2012 to 2017, Hayes led a group that handled some of the most significant restructurings and Chapter 11 cases in the country, particularly in the Eastern District of Virginia, which has become a preferred venue for large companies seeking bankruptcy protection. Earlier in his career, he established himself as a go-to lawyer for clients in some of the most notable and complex bankruptcies filed in Virginia and elsewhere.

Hayes now leads a 500-lawyer litigation practice recognized nationally for the depth and breadth of its capabilities and its track record helping businesses anticipate and manage litigation risks.

“I am honored to be included in this class of distinguished Virginia lawyers and grateful for the support of my very talented McGuireWoods colleagues and our firm’s clients,” Hayes said.

Siegmund was named one of VLW’s 2022 “Up & Coming Lawyers,” an honor reserved for attorneys in their first 10 years of practice whose significant accomplishments establish them as future leaders.

Siegmund is a labor and employment lawyer with a broad litigation practice. She is a key member of McGuireWoods’ education industry team and has experience handling matters involving intellectual property, data privacy, employment law and regulations, commercial litigation, financial services litigation, class action matters and other areas of law.

Siegmund also mentors junior lawyers at the firm and aspiring lawyers through the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity, helping them develop a foundation in labor and employment and education law.

“I am proud to be recognized along with accomplished and community-minded lawyers who are making important contributions to the law,” Siegmund said.

The honorees will be feted at an Oct. 25 reception at The John Marshall Ballrooms in Richmond.

“Dion and Heidi are accomplished lawyers who are admired and respected by clients and colleagues for their commitment to excellence,” said McGuireWoods managing partner J. Tracy Walker IV, a 2019 Leader in the Law honoree. “They are invaluable contributors to McGuireWoods’ success and we congratulate them for this well-deserved recognition.”
