McGuireWoods Associate Charles Kuo to Join Eastman

April 23, 2025

McGuireWoods Washington, D.C., associate Charles Kuo will join Eastman as senior health, safety and environmental (HSE) attorney. His last day at McGuireWoods is April 30. He will begin his new role on May 5.

In his new role, Kuo will work with a team responsible for environmental compliance for all domestic manufacturing facilities, provide strategic legal counsel on global air pollution and climate-related regulations, support environmental compliance in transactions and enforcement matters, and collaborate across business functions and industry groups to advance corporate sustainability and regulatory initiatives.

Kuo, who joined McGuireWoods’ Environmental & Mass Tort (EMT) Department in February 2023, assists and defends clients on environmental regulatory and compliance and litigation issues, including solid and hazardous waste, water, air pollution, climate change, toxic tort and natural resource damages. Prior to pursuing law, Kuo spent several years working as an environmental engineer as well as a chemist at an oil and gas plant in Texas.

“Although my time at McGuireWoods was brief, it was deeply meaningful,” Kuo said. “I’ve grown a great deal as a lawyer and had the privilege of working alongside some of the smartest and kindest people I’ve met. I’m especially thankful for the mentorship, support and friendships I’ve gained during my time here.”

“We are grateful for Charles’ contributions to our team,” said Benjamin Hatch, chair of McGuireWoods’ EMT Department. “His unique background in engineering and chemistry made him a valuable asset to our clients and colleagues alike. We wish him all the best in his next chapter.”
