Corporate Counsel Rate McGuireWoods Among ‘The Most Feared Law Firms in Litigation’ in BTI Survey

September 22, 2025

McGuireWoods ranked among “The Most Feared Law Firms in Litigation” in BTI Consulting’s annual survey of corporate counsel, earning recognition for excellence in nine litigation practice categories.

The report — “BTI Litigation Outlook 2026: More Contentious. More Complex. More Spending” — is based on survey responses from top legal decision makers at large companies with $1 billion or more in revenue.

McGuireWoods was rated a “leader” for class action, complex commercial and general commercial litigation; a “distinguished” firm for intellectual property, complex employment and general employment litigation; and a “standout” for cybersecurity, product liability, and securities and finance litigation.

In addition, McGuireWoods was among a select group of firms identified as “intimidating opponents” that corporate counsel do not want to see on the other side of the table in litigation disputes.

“We are grateful that corporate counsel consistently recognize the excellence of our litigation practices and appreciate our commitment to understanding their businesses and providing innovative solutions that advance their goals,” said Noreen Kelly, McGuireWoods’ deputy managing partner for litigation.

According to BTI’s survey, 64% of companies expect to increase their litigation budgets in 2026 as disputes become more complex and contentious and carry more financial risk.

“The winners will be those who deliver speed, precision and bold thinking — not just arguments,” the report noted.

BTI’s surveys of corporate counsel consistently rate McGuireWoods as a leading law firm. The firm ranked No. 7 overall in BTI’s 2025 Client Service A-Team report, the gold standard for measuring client service excellence. McGuireWoods is one of only four firms nationwide to earn a coveted top 30 ranking for at least 10 straight years.
