Matthew Hall Comments on EU Antitrust Review of Qualcomm’s NXP Bid

An Oct. 27 Bloomberg article, “Qualcomm Must Woo EU Antitrust Foes to Win Blessing for NXP,” quotes Brussels antitrust partner Matthew Hall on considerations European Union regulators may take into account while reviewing Qualcomm’s $47 billion takeover bid for NXP Semiconductors NV, even as Qualcomm faces off with the EU over two separate antitrust cases.

“The commission will use its knowledge of these companies and does take account, in merger-control reviews, of the past behavior of the firms in the market,” Hall said. “That said, for these two companies, either nothing was proven or the investigation has not yet been concluded. So, the knowledge would probably only be used as background.”
