Ryan Frei, Ashley Peterson Cover U.S. Commercial Litigation for ‘Getting the Deal Through’

January 25, 2019

McGuireWoods Richmond partner Ryan Frei and associate Ashley Peterson authored the U.S. chapter of Getting the Deal Through’s “Complex Commercial Litigation,” a book providing a global review of key issues in commercial litigation.

Frei and Peterson addressed more than 50 points lawyers around the world need to know before litigating and trying a case in the U.S. judicial system. The authors noted that because litigation tends to be regional, foreign parties involved in U.S. litigation are often U.S.-based subsidiaries. However, the lawyers cautioned that due to the continued expansion of globalization and e-commerce, “foreign entities and parents of U.S. affiliates may find themselves litigating [in the United States] more frequently.”

In the chapter, Frei and Peterson reviewed background on the U.S. legal framework and detail considerations for bringing a claim in a U.S. jurisdiction, actions to respond to a claim and progress a case, and trial and post-trial considerations.

The U.S. chapter of the 2019 edition of “Complex Commercial Litigation” is available online.
