Law360 Highlights McGuireWoods’ Advocacy for NASCAR Drivers

October 27, 2025

Law360 quoted McGuireWoods partner Robert Muckenfuss, co-leader of the firm’s Sports Industry Team, in an Oct. 21, 2025, story on an antitrust dispute between two NASCAR racing teams and the stock car racing organization.

Muckenfuss and McGuireWoods partner Kelly A. Warlich represent the Drivers Advisory Council (DAC), an advocacy group for NASCAR drivers. The council argues that drivers should have a voice in the high-profile dispute, which has entered court-supervised mediation in U.S. District Court for the Western District of North Carolina. The McGuireWoods team filed an amicus brief on DAC’s behalf.

Muckenfuss told Law360 the council filed the brief “to provide what it and its board view as the driver perspective and advocate for the drivers’ interests as the case is being considered for resolution.”

“There are many aspects of what makes the sport successful and exciting for the fans, including NASCAR, the owners, drivers, crews, broadcast partners, the tracks, etc. As an advocacy group for the drivers, the DAC submitted the brief to highlight the drivers’ interests in the sport and to promote the best experience for the fans,” Muckenfuss said.

Ranked by Chambers USA, McGuireWoods’ Sports Industry Team has led billion-dollar stadium financings, closed headline-making M&A deals, negotiated endorsement contracts with global sports icons and won high-stakes litigation for professional sports teams, professional athletes and universities.
