Elizabeth Zwickert Timmermans, managing partner of McGuireWoods’ Raleigh office, was featured in the Triangle Business Journal’s May 19, 2025, coverage of the newspaper’s Empowered Women’s Forum held in Cary, North Carolina.
Timmermans joined a select group of business leaders from the region in a panel discussion on negotiating and dealmaking. The panelists shared insights on communication, self-advocacy and reaching closure in business transactions. Timmermans stressed the importance of leaning into personal strengths to gain an edge in negotiations, the TBJ reported.
“There’s nothing more helpful in negotiation than authenticity,” said Timmermans, a commercial litigation partner. “Be yourself and let them underestimate you. They won’t know what’s hitting them until it’s too late.”
Knowing the players involved in a negotiation and understanding what they want also are crucial, she added.
The inaugural Empowered Women’s Forum was held May 15, 2025, at The Umstead Hotel in Cary.
