The Baltimore Business Journal profiled McGuireWoods’ Melissa Martinez in a July 14, 2025, story on her appointment as the firm’s office managing partner in Baltimore.
Martinez told the newspaper that she wants to grow the office, diversify its practice areas and expand its role in the community – all while retaining its current talent.
“Retention in large firms is very difficult. It is a lot of hours and a lot of commitment,” she said. “We want to make sure the people who really like to work have the right support around them.”
Martinez focuses on commercial litigation, environmental and business torts, contractual disputes, and fiduciary matters. She also handles consumer litigation involving state consumer protection laws and patent litigation. Martinez chairs McGuireWoods’ Asian Pacific Lawyers Network and sits on the steering committee of the firm’s Appellate Justice Initiative.
Martinez succeeded Elena Marcuss as office managing partner. Marcuss chairs the firm’s Labor& Employment Department.
“We’ve had some amazing managing partners here at the Baltimore office who were amazing lawyers and excellent leaders, and I am happy to stand among them,” Martinez said.
