Law360, Global Legal Chronicle, Corporate Counsel Business Journal, Benchmark Litigation and Pulse 2.0 were among the legal and business news outlets that covered the arrival of McGuireWoods partner Andrew Barrios, who joined the firm’s Insurance Recovery Practice Group in Chicago.
Barrios’ practice spans a broad range of coverage areas, including general and excess liability, first-party property and business interruption, directors and officers (D&O) liability, errors and omissions (E&O) and professional liability, cyber and data breach liability, and representations and warranties insurance. He also handles disputes involving contractual indemnity and risk transfer, often in parallel with insurance recovery efforts.
In Law360’s Sept. 8, 2026, story, Barrios said McGuireWoods’ deep bench of policyholder-side attorneys and collaborative approach to client service made the firm “a great fit for my practice.”
“Growing the firm’s insurance recovery presence in Chicago, where so many major policyholders are headquartered, was a natural next step, and it’s great to be part of it,” he said.
Barrios also discussed the trend of “social inflation” in Law360’s story. As verdicts and settlements have grown, insurance carriers are responding with more aggressive coverage positions, “reaching for exclusions not designed for the claim at hand or taking narrow readings of policy language to avoid paying what should be a covered loss,” he said.
“Bigger losses mean more carrier resistance, and more carrier resistance means more policyholders need experienced counsel to push back,” he said.
Politico also noted Barrios’ arrival in the Sept. 10, 2026, edition of its “Illinois Playbook.”
