June 3, 2013

McGuireWoods LLP, the presenting sponsor of the American Diabetes Association’s (ADA) Chicagoland Tour de Cure, will join together with thousands of community members at the event in Aurora, Ill., on June 9, 2013, in support of the ADA’s mission to stop diabetes.

With bike routes ranging from 10 to 100 miles, registration opens at 6:30 a.m. with start times beginning at 7:00, 8:30 and 10 a.m. Participants will meet at Two Brothers Roundhouse, where a celebration with food and live music will be held that afternoon.

“We look forward to joining with community members again this year in support of this important cause, which impacts the lives of millions of Americans,” said Amy Manning, managing partner of McGuireWoods’ Chicago office and chairwoman of the ADA’s Chicago Community Leadership Board. “Whether you ride, cheer on riders, or simply make a donation, everyone’s participation makes a difference.”

Diabetes is a disease in which the body does not produce or properly use insulin, a hormone that is needed to convert sugar, starches and other food into energy. According to the ADA, nearly 26 million people in the United States have diabetes and someone is diagnosed with the disease every 17 seconds.

The Chicagoland Tour de Cure is part of a series of fundraising cycling events held in 44 states nationwide to benefit the ADA. The Tour is a ride, not a race, with routes designed for everyone from the occasional rider to the experienced cyclist. For more information, click here.
