Thomas Zahn, an accomplished corporate lawyer who has handled large and complex deals in a wide range of industry sectors, has joined McGuireWoods’ mergers and acquisitions practice in the firm’s Pittsburgh office.
Zahn represents public and private companies and private equity funds in a wide range of corporate and transactional matters, including mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, majority and minority investments, recapitalizations, commercial deals, activist investments and corporate governance matters.
He has represented clients in a variety of industries, including aerospace, consumer goods, energy, entertainment, financial services, food and beverage, health care, manufacturing, metals and technology. Zahn joins McGuireWoods from the Pittsburgh office of Jones Day.
“Tom is a rising star with an impressive range of experience and skills that will benefit our clients,” said Scott Westwood, Pittsburgh-based chairman of McGuireWoods’ mergers and acquisitions practice. “He is an important addition to our practice and we’re delighted to welcome him.”
Zahn’s transactional experience includes assisting ConAgra Foods with its $4 billion flour milling joint venture with Cargill and CHS and advising RTI International Metals in its recent $1.5 billion acquisition by Alcoa.
“Tom is an accomplished dealmaker who excels at building strong relationships with clients and goes the extra mile to meet their needs,” said Brian Parker, managing partner of McGuireWoods’ Pittsburgh office. “He is a great fit for our team in Pittsburgh.”
Zahn adds firepower to a McGuireWoods practice that has been cited by respected, independent authorities for excellence in meeting the needs of its corporate clients. Seven of the firm’s lawyers are ranked in the Corporate/M&A category by Chambers USA in its 2014 guide. McGuireWoods also is ranked among the top 20 law firms in the 2015 Client Service A-Team rankings published by Boston-based BTI Consulting Group.
“McGuireWoods’ M&A and private equity practices are world class and the firm has a stellar reputation for client service,” Zahn said. “The firm’s entrepreneurial and cutting-edge approach to client engagements also separates it from the pack. I’m excited for the opportunity to grow my practice here and collaborate with an outstanding team of lawyers.”
Zahn received his bachelor’s degree from Carnegie Mellon University in 1999. He earned his law degree from Duquesne University, summa cum laude, in 2007, graduating at the top of his class.
