Partner Michael Podberesky has been appointed chair of McGuireWoods’ Veteran Lawyers Network, which supports military veterans inside the firm and leverages the experience of the firm’s lawyers to provide legal assistance to service members nationwide.

Podberesky, a veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom and a former federal prosecutor, is a partner in McGuireWoods’ Government Investigations & White Collar Litigation Department and co-leader of the firm’s False Claims Act team. Before joining the firm, he served in the U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Fraud Section and led teams investigating and litigating fraud cases in the healthcare and federal procurement sectors.

A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Podberesky served as a naval flight officer and commanded armed combat and surveillance missions over Afghanistan. He was awarded the Global War on Terrorism Medal for his service in Patrol Squadron One (VP-1).

“I am honored to have the opportunity to chair the firm’s Veteran Lawyers Network and continue the important work of providing legal assistance and other support to military veterans in our communities,” Podberesky said.

McGuireWoods recently was recognized for its innovative initiatives to support veterans, winning the honor for Veterans Program of the Year in Chambers and Partners’ Diversity & Inclusion Awards: North America 2021.

“Michael is an outstanding lawyer and proven leader who will ensure that our award-winning Veteran Lawyers Network continues to make a difference for men and women who have served our country in uniform,” said partner Ava Lias-Booker, chair of the firm’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee.
