Jason is a trial lawyer who focuses his practice on defending companies across the country in litigation involving Title VII, § 1981, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), employment-related torts, noncompete agreements, nonsolicitation agreements, claims of misappropriation of trade secrets, tortious interference, breach of contract and breach of fiduciary duty. He has substantial experience drafting employment policies and contracts, and often advises clients regarding ways to minimize litigation risks and protect confidential and trade secret information. Jason is board certified in Labor and Employment Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.

Jason frequently represents clients in a broad range of commercial litigation matters in federal and state court. He has extensive courtroom experience and has handled numerous jury trials, bench trials, arbitrations and injunctive hearings in Texas and other states. He takes an aggressive yet thoughtful approach toward litigation, remaining cognizant of the business implications of high-stakes trial work.

Jason also devotes a substantial portion of his practice to representing energy companies in labor and employment, legacy litigation, contractual, downhole losses, business interruptions and maritime matters. He has handled several large arbitration and jury cases for energy clients through verdict and appeal. Additionally, Jason concentrates much of his time in the evolving cannabis industry; he provides ongoing counsel to CBD companies and works closely with them to identify and manage routine operations issues.

Prior to joining the firm, Jason served as a judicial clerk to the Honorable James R. Nowlin in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas. This experience provided him with valuable understanding as to how judges operate and form legal opinions.

Jason writes and presents about the intersection between creative and legal writing and believes it can help to analyze disputes. Pandamoon Publishing released his debut novel, Fate’s Past, on April 12, 2016.


Labor and Employment

  • Obtained a temporary restraining order against a client’s former employee lodging threats against existing employees.
  • Obtained a temporary restraining order preventing a client’s former employee from misappropriating confidential and trade secret information in violation of the employee’s restrictive covenants.
  • Obtained dismissal of a retaliation claim asserted by a client’s former employee.
  • Obtained decertification of a nationwide Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) collective action for a multinational internet service provider.
  • Negotiated a favorable permanent injunction against a client’s former employees who had started a competing business.
  • Obtained dismissal of a lawsuit brought by a client’s former employee regarding alleged unpaid bonuses.


  • Obtained a favorable settlement on behalf of an energy client, which was one of nearly 20 named defendants in a legacy litigation matter.
  • Successfully mediated multimillion-dollar claims against an energy cooperative.
  • Obtained an injunctive relief against a client’s former employee who was misappropriating drilling software.
  • Negotiated a favorable settlement stemming from the catastrophic failure of a Venturi flow meter.

Commercial Litigation

  • Obtained a reversal of a restraining order after removing the case to federal court and successfully moved to compel the matter to arbitration.
  • Obtained a multimillion-dollar arbitration award in an international shipbuilding and chartering case.
  • Convinced a court of appeals to affirm a summary judgement enforcing a favorable settlement agreement, which the opposing party had attempted to disavow.
  • Persuaded a federal district court to vacate a $9 million arbitration award.
