Melissa focuses her practice on public and commercial finance with a particular emphasis on senior living, health care, real estate, tax increment finance and economic development. With experience as counsel to underwriters, borrowers, issuers, banks, developers and trustees on a wide range of transactions, Melissa is known for anticipating and resolving issues as well as for promoting long-term relationships among transaction parties.
Melissa’s senior living industry experience includes serving as a financial advisor and investment banker at HJ Sims, advising not-for-profit life plan communities, assisted living and skilled nursing facilities. During her tenure at Sims, Melissa frequently advised management and boards of communities on capital and strategic planning matters, serving a key role in advising communities towards longstanding success. Prior to joining Sims, Melissa served as counsel to lenders and underwriters, with a focus on bank and bond financings for life plan communities, skilled nursing and assisted living communities, bridge-to-HUD financing, and asset-based financing to operators of such organizations.
Beyond senior living finance, Melissa has substantial experience in economic development, P3 and infrastructure finance. Melissa has spoken at regional and national conferences on topics relating to tax increment finance and tools for tax-exempt public infrastructure finance.
