To better meet the needs of clients and clients doing business in Texas, we expanded our presence through a merger with the nearly decade old law firm of Nickens Keeton Lawless Farrell & Flack LLP on Jan. 1, 2011, which gives us strategic offices in Houston and Austin. The new firm brings to McGuireWoods more than 160 years of combined experience in complex civil cases of all types in Texas and across the country.

Representing some of the leading energy companies in the world, we can now handle Texas matters, thanks to the addition of David L. Ronn and Peter del Vecchio who join as partners with the firm’s expanding energy group. Each has more than 20 years of experience representing a variety of national and international clients. Ronn represents clients in a range of corporate and securities matters, with particular focus in the energy and technology industries. These matters have included mergers and acquisitions of public and private entities, master limited partnerships, and initial and secondary public offerings, among many others. He is a LEED accredited professional, sits on the board of the U.S. Green Building Council, Texas Gulf Coast Chapter, and has worked on various energy efficiency and green building projects. Del Vecchio represents developers, owners, financiers and constructors of power plants and other energy production facilities, with transactional matters dealing with energy and infrastructure. Many of these projects have included pipelines, gas storage facilities, transmission lines and other product transportation systems, transportation and other infrastructure projects.

In Austin, we also have highlighted strengths in the area of insurance coverage, with local client engagements including: representing corporate policyholders in a variety of insurance-related disputes and litigation, including extra-contractual litigation; and representing corporate policyholders denied coverage by their insurance carriers, particularly with respect to environmental, asbestos, and other “long-tail” claims.

Partner Mark Lawless and senior counsel Pamella Hopper join McGuireWoods as part of the Nickens Keeton team. Establishing the firm’s first presence in Austin, they are insurance attorneys who represent corporate policyholders in insurance coverage matters and disputes, and work to expand McGuireWoods’ insurance recovery practice group’s geographical footprint. Lawless has more than 20 years experience handling first- and third-party coverage disputes, including claims under commercial general liability, directors and officers, error and omissions, as well as property and business interruption coverage.
