Am Law Litigation Daily published a question-and-answer interview with McGuireWoods Chairman Jon Harmon on Dec. 21 titled “Meet the Star Litigator Who Just Became Chairman of McGuireWoods.”
In the story that topped the publication’s “Daily Dicta” column, Harmon stressed that the goal he and new Managing Partner J. Tracy Walker IV have for McGuireWoods is to establish the firm as a “national powerhouse.”
Harmon noted the firm’s unprecedented growth under former Chairman Richard Cullen and former Managing Partner Tom Cabaniss from a “super-regional” firm of 700-plus lawyers to one of national stature and about 1,100 lawyers.
“I think the next step is to go from being a national firm to a national powerhouse. It’s not a short-term goal, it’s not something that will happen overnight, but it is something, given our people and culture, that I believe we can do,” Harmon said.
He noted that he is visiting the firm’s offices and seeking out the insights of partners and clients in devising the plan to build a national powerhouse. “I’m still going to be spending more time with our partners and some of our key clients to identify where we want to grow and how we want to do it,” he said.
The story was the most recent to appear in numerous outlets about the firm’s leadership transition since Harmon and Walker assumed their leadership duties on Dec. 4.
