Chicago partner Amber McGraw Walsh, chair of McGuireWoods’ Healthcare Department, is quoted in a March 1 article by Mergers & Acquisitions magazine discussing how the repeal or replacement of the Affordable Care Act may impact deal-making in the healthcare industry.
“One well-deserving subsector that would almost certainly benefit from full repeal, or replacement without Section 6001 of the ACA, is the physician-owned hospital industry,” said Walsh, who was selected for inclusion in the publication’s 2017 list of The Most Influential Women in Mid-Market M&A.
She explained further that Section 6001 is “intended to halt the development of physician-owned hospitals by severely limiting expansion of existing physician-owned hospitals and by stopping the development of new physician-owned hospitals that serve Medicare and Medicaid. Section 6001 has, unfortunately, stymied growth of this important sub-sector in the past.”
The article notes that, despite market uncertainty, McGuireWoods “has been active in the healthcare sector over the last year,” and highlights several deals the firm has handled within the industry.
