The National Law Journal interviewed McGuireWoods managing partner J. Tracy Walker IV for a Nov. 19, 2021, story touting the record size of the firm’s 2022 class of new partners.
The story spotlighted firms that have promoted bigger and more diverse partnership classes to meet rising demand. McGuireWoods elected 23 new partners effective Jan. 1, 2022. The firm’s largest-ever class spans nine of the firm’s U.S. offices and McGuireWoods London and covers a range of practice areas.
“We’re growing our partnership to meet rising demand. And we have seen great demand this year,” Walker told NLJ. “But fundamentally this large class reflects the depth of talent in our litigation and corporate practice groups throughout the U.S. and London.”
Walker noted the 2022 partner class include associates who began their careers at McGuireWoods as well as lawyers hired laterally in recent years.
“It’s the quality of these young lawyers that really makes a difference for our firm,” he said. “We’ve made great efforts to recruit outstanding associates and help them grow professionally. And we’re seeing the fruits of that.”
