Law360, The American Lawyer Spotlight McGuireWoods’ New Office Managing Partners

August 1, 2025

National legal publications Law360 and The American Lawyer covered McGuireWoods’ announcement of new office managing partners in Atlanta, Baltimore, Houston and San Francisco.

The firm named Ryan Buchanan (Atlanta), Melissa Martinez (Baltimore), Tyler VanHoutan (Houston) and Todd Dressel (San Franscisco) to lead those offices effective July 1, 2025. In Law360’s July 9, 2025, story, the new office managing partners said they want to build on the successes of their predecessors and elevate the firm’s visibility in their respective markets.

Buchanan returned to McGuireWoods in 2025 after nearly 15 years as a federal prosecutor, including three years as U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Georgia.

“As I transitioned out of federal service, I was drawn to McGuireWoods’ commitment to an increased presence and continued growth in Atlanta, so I am very excited to build upon that momentum by serving as the managing partner of this office,” said Buchanan, who followed Chris Greene as office managing partner.

Martinez said she was “honored to serve as office managing partner in this amazing, vibrant and dynamic city where I grew up.”

“I hope to continue to grow the Baltimore office and expand our presence in the legal and business community,” said Martinez, who succeeded Elena Marcuss.

VanHoutan outlined similar goals for the Houston office, where he followed Yasser Madriz as managing partner, saying he wants to “continue growing the Houston office and expanding the services offered by McGuireWoods to our current and future clients in the robust Houston legal market.”

Dressel added: “I want to continue to build on what Dave Powell accomplished since McGuireWoods’ San Francisco office opened in 2016, with the main goal of maintaining our culture of congeniality and collaboration as we grow our team.”
