The Washington Business Journal featured John E. Thomas Jr., McGuireWoods’ office managing partner in Tysons, Virginia, in an Oct. 26, 2026, feature story on regional business executives with new roles.
Thomas, who was appointed to the managing partner position in September 2026, answered questions about the Tysons office’s biggest opportunity, the biggest change his new role would bring, the best thing about doing business in the “DMV” (the Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia area), and something that would surprise others about him.
In the article, Thomas said growth was the Tysons office’s biggest opportunity. He explained that Tysons sits in one of the strongest and most diverse regional economies in the country, and McGuireWoods is well positioned to take full advantage of those opportunities. Thomas also commented on the diverse mix of industries, spanning government, technology, federal contracting, nonprofits, and fast-growing private companies.
The article also featured the local philanthropic boards on which Thomas serves, including the Fairfax Local Access to Justice Commission, Wolf Trap’s Associates Board, and the Workhouse Arts Foundation. “This is a big, busy place, but there is real opportunity for community building,” Thomas said.
Thomas is a member of the firm’s Labor & Employment Department. He is an experienced trial lawyer who represents businesses in disputes involving misappropriation of trade secrets, covenants not to compete, breaches of contract, whistleblower retaliation, defamation, wage-and-hour laws, leave laws and discrimination statutes.
