Bloomberg Law quoted McGuireWoods partner Greg Riegle in a Feb. 25, 2026, story on the evolving regulatory environment for data centers in Virginia, home to more than a tenth of global data center capacity.
The article examined how rising costs, local opposition and power supply constraints are creating new challenges for data center development. Riegle, who leads the firm’s Data Centers Practice Area, said data center developers look to law firms with capabilities across multiple disciplines to address those challenges.
“Data center work is the ultimate team sport,” he said.
Riegle also highlighted the significant regulatory shifts occurring across Virginia, saying: “I would dare you to find a [local] jurisdiction in Virginia that has not done something to change their regulatory framework. There is no question that the regulatory bar is higher.”
