Law360, Bloomberg Law, Managing IP, World IP Review and Global Legal Chronicle were among the legal media outlets that covered the arrival of Washington, D.C., partner Paul Schoenhard, a trial and appellate litigator who joined the firm’s nationally recognized Intellectual Property Practice Group.
Schoenhard represents emerging and multinational companies across the full spectrum of intellectual property matters. He serves as lead counsel in high-stakes disputes involving patents, trade secrets, trademarks, copyrights and unfair competition. In Law360’s March 19, 2026, story, Schoenhard said he was excited to join McGuireWoods’ “impressive lineup of trial and appellate lawyers.”
“Unlike many firms that have siloed their IP practices and carefully segmented them into granular subpractices, McGuireWoods shares my vision of a more generalist approach to IP litigation, fielding teams that are custom-tailored to each matter,” Schoenhard said. “Rather than lumping together a group of engineers with identical backgrounds and skill sets, we start with an incredible collection of excellent lawyers and then work to identify whose backgrounds, skills and personalities are best suited to a particular situation.”
Schoenhard said an appealing aspect of IP law “is that every case invites me to learn something new and to figure out how to explain it to others.”
