Bloomberg Law quoted McGuireWoods Richmond partner Courtney M. Malveaux on differing workplace safety bills passed in Virginia and Utah in its weekly column, “Punching In,” on March 30, 2026.
Malveaux, a former Virginia labor commissioner, noted that employers with operations in multiple states must navigate varying state standards for hazards. Virginia recently passed bills requiring workplace safety authorities to develop regulations aimed at shielding workers from heat illness, while Utah lawmakers enacted a measure to minimize violence against healthcare workers.
“One of the big concerns that’s at play here is having predictability in the rules of the road with respect to heat illness and workplace violence,” said Malveaux, who is a sought-after legal adviser on occupational safety and health matters.
