Bewley is an accomplished regulatory and transactional attorney with more than two decades of experience. His career includes stints in the federal government as senior counsel at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General and as an attorney in the U.S. Department of Justice Attorney General’s Honors Program. He advises healthcare and life sciences companies, private equity sponsors and their portfolio companies on regulatory compliance, government investigations and transactions.
Bewley told Law360 in its June 23, 2026, story that he was drawn to McGuireWoods by the depth and breadth of the firm’s healthcare and life sciences capabilities.
“As I went through the process and met many people, it became very, very clear to me that this was the right place for me and the type of work that I do and the type of clients that I work with,” Bewley said.
Bewley said he still draws on his government experience when helping clients structure transactions and address operational issues.
“My lengthy career in the government still informs my practice today, because if I’m involved in a private equity deal, I know what the government looks for and how transactions are structured, and whether those transactions comply with federal or state laws,” Bewley said. “I also understand from an operational perspective, the types of operational issues that can trigger a government investigation, and not just trigger a government investigation, how serious that investigation will be.”
