Carlos Muñiz, who served as senior counsel to former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and most recently was deputy state attorney general, has joined McGuireWoods Consulting as a senior vice president and as a partner in the law firm of McGuireWoods LLP.
Muñiz, a senior vice president in the consulting firm’s National and Multistate Strategies team, joined the international law and consulting firm on Dec. 31 and is based in McGuireWoods’ Jacksonville, Fla., office.
“Carlos will be a tremendous asset for both current and future clients, as well as a great resource for the law firm and its attorneys,” said L.F. Muñiz has worked with state attorneys general throughout the country and possesses substantial experience in consumer protection issues, government investigations, and disputes between the states and the federal government. He also provides broad, senior level insight to clients in their interaction with the executive and legislative branches of Florida state government.

Muñiz brings to McGuireWoods nearly a decade of senior level experience in Florida government, most recently as deputy attorney general and chief of staff to Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi. He managed the 400-lawyer agency and oversaw all functions, including litigation, policy development, legislative affairs and communications.
Muñiz was deputy chief of staff and counsel in the Office of Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives from 2007 to 2009, general counsel of the Florida Department of Financial Services from 2005 to 2006 and deputy general counsel to the governor under Bush from 2001 to 2003. He is a graduate of the University of Virginia and Yale Law School, where he was a member of the Yale Law Journal.
