McGuireWoods Ranked Among Top FCPA Practices in Washington

August 30, 2016

McGuireWoods has been recognized as one of the top law firms with practices in Washington, D.C., that handle Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) matters in a new report from Global Investigations Review (GIR) and Just Anti-Corruption.

Washington D.C.’s FCPA Bar Guide ranks firms with Washington-based lawyers who offer FCPA advice. It ranks McGuireWoods as a “recommended” firm and cites the work of experienced, highly regarded lawyers in the firm’s government investigations and white-collar litigation practice, particularly in high-profile matters.

The guide specifically highlights McGuireWoods Chairman Richard Cullen and Washington partners George J. Terwilliger III, J. Patrick Rowan and Robert Bittman.

Cullen was appointed U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia by President George H.W. Bush in 1991 and later served as Virginia attorney general. Terwilliger, a leading Washington lawyer, was the No. 2 official in the U.S. Department of Justice in the George H.W. Bush administration. Rowan served for 18 years in the Justice Department, including a stint as assistant attorney general for national security. And Bittman, a former state and federal prosecutor, served as deputy independent counsel on the team that investigated the Whitewater case.

“Former senior prosecutors can bring clout and respect to discussions with the DOJ, as well as deep knowledge about how to work with the department to resolve matters for their clients,” GIR notes.

The firm’s ranking in Washington D.C.’s FCPA Bar Guide is just the latest honor earned by McGuireWoods’ government investigations and white collar practice. Last year, McGuireWoods was ranked among the world’s top 40 investigations firms in the first edition of the GIR 100, a guide to leading cross-border investigations practices. In addition, Law360 named McGuireWoods a 2014 “White Collar Group of the Year.”

Global Investigations Review is published by Law Business Research, an independent London-based publishing group which provides research, analysis and reporting on the international legal services marketplace.
