North Carolina Lawyers Weekly has selected Mark Anderson —managing partner of McGuireWoods’ Raleigh, N.C., office and head of the firm’s national trials team — for its annual “Leaders in the Law” list, honoring the state’s most influential legal professionals.
With nearly 30 years of experience bringing complex matters to jury verdict, Anderson has prepared hundreds of cases for trial. He began his career defending healthcare practitioners and institutions in malpractice suits, and today represents a range of clients in matters involving product liability, toxic and mass torts, financial contracts, complex commercial litigation, and appeals.
Among recent victories, he helped secure a favorable outcome for Olympus Corp. after a high-profile eight-week product liability trial in July involving a widely used medical scope. The trial was the first in the United States over allegations that gastrointestinal probes caused outbreaks of infections by drug-resistant bacteria and it was watched closely by plaintiffs’ lawyers across the country with similar suits pending against Olympus.
Anderson has been inducted into the American College of Trial Lawyers, the International Academy of Trial Lawyers and the American Board of Trial Advocates. He is ranked in the prestigious guide, Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business. He has been selected for The Best Lawyers in America for 10 consecutive years and he is recognized by Benchmark Litigation as a Local Litigation Star. And he is a three-time honoree on Law & Politics’ Top 100 Attorneys in North Carolina.
Mark has served on the board of trustees of Durham Academy; was a founding director of Durham Nativity School, an institution dedicated to educating middle-school boys from financially challenged families; and he is a board member of Student U, an organization providing services for young students.
