Partner Jontille Ray Receives RBA John C. Kenny Pro Bono Award

December 4, 2024

The Richmond Bar Association named McGuireWoods partner Jontille Ray its 2024 John C. Kenny Pro Bono Award recipient. The annual award recognizes an individual who demonstrates outstanding commitment to pro bono legal work, including through the innovative delivery of services and by addressing previously unmet legal needs.

Ray co-chairs McGuireWoods’ Richmond office pro bono committee. She helps low-income clients navigate the family law system and is a point person for child custody and support matters. She was part of a McGuireWoods team that launched a novel medical-legal partnership with Dominion Energy and VCU Health to assist VCU patients with legal issues affecting their health and wellbeing. She is the lead lawyer for family law matters referred from the MLP.

In an announcement appearing in its November 2024 newsletter, the bar association noted that Ray “does not engage in pro bono work for recognition but deserves acknowledgement for her steady drive to both do the work and enable others to do the same.”

Among Ray’s numerous other honors, The Best Lawyers in America named her Richmond’s Lawyer of the Year in the energy regulatory law category, and she was a Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year finalist in the Chambers USA Awards.

Ray received the Kenny award at a Richmond Bar Association luncheon on Nov. 30, 2024.
