Mundo de la Fuente has joined McGuireWoods as a partner in Houston, bringing nearly two decades of experience representing energy, infrastructure and data center developers, as well as investors and lenders in project development and financing transactions. His arrival enhances the firm’s significant energy and real estate capabilities, which are integral to helping clients navigate the unique infrastructure challenges associated with the AI boom.

de la Fuente advises on domestic and cross-border projects and investments. He represents a spectrum of energy and infrastructure stakeholders — including developers, investors and utilities — on high-value projects ranging from renewables and battery energy storage to liquefied natural gas and midstream assets. He is a key strategist for data center developers and hyperscalers, assisting clients with site acquisition, utility interconnections, and contract negotiations with power generators, water suppliers and other resource providers. He joins McGuireWoods from K&L Gates.

“Mundo brings a tremendous range of sophisticated deal experience, particularly with energy infrastructure and data centers,” said Richard W. Viola, deputy managing partner of the firm’s corporate practice. “His insight will be instrumental in helping clients across industries capitalize on opportunities presented by the AI revolution.”

Said Dennis Mensi, chair of the firm’s Public and Private Infrastructure & Real Estate Department: “Mundo is an important addition to our team, expanding our bench in Texas and enhancing our capabilities to assist clients as they develop and finance vital infrastructure projects.”

McGuireWoods has helped data center developers and operators facilitate development of millions of square feet of data center space in markets throughout the country. The firm provides strategic guidance on transactions, site selection, permitting and energy procurement, aided by the cross-functional support and public affairs capabilities of McGuireWoods Consulting.

In addition, the firm’s Energy M&A and Finance Practice Group — ranked nationally by Chambers USA, the Legal 500 United States and Best Law Firms — combines focused industry knowledge, regulatory fluency and practical, business-driven solutions to ensure clients complete strategic transactions, secure financing and advance critical projects across the country.

“Mundo’s work at the intersection of energy and technology complements our strengths in one of the world’s most dynamic energy markets,” said Tyler VanHoutan, managing partner of the firm’s Houston office.

“With top-tier energy and real estate practitioners, McGuireWoods is uniquely positioned to help clients advance innovative projects and investments, including those that power our digital future,” de la Fuente said. “The firm’s collaborative culture and established reputation representing sponsors and investors provide a perfect fit for my practice.
