McGuireWoods Lawyers Author Chapter for Seventh Edition of GIR’s “The Guide to Sanctions”

McGuireWoods partners Alex Brackett, Patrick Rowan, Jason Cowley, Edwin Childs and Elissa Baur contributed a chapter to the seventh edition of Global Investigations Review’s annual “Guide to Sanctions,” examining how changes in the tariff, trade and export control landscape are reshaping supply chain compliance.

The chapter — “Analysing the impact of sanctions and export controls on supply chains” —  expands on the information the McGuireWoods authors contributed to the annual guide each since 2022, following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the sweeping multilateral actions aimed at curbing its global influence and disrupting its military capabilities.

The 2026 updates address “the rapidly evolving tariff and trade landscape under the second Trump administration, including the unprecedented 2025 reciprocal tariff regime, the ongoing United States–China trade escalation and the continued tightening of export controls on advanced technologies and artificial intelligence (AI).”

The new tariffs, the authors wrote, “added yet another layer of complexity, as companies must now manage the interplay between tariffs, sanctions and export controls in their supply chain planning.”

“In an environment where geopolitical tensions continue to drive the proliferation of trade restrictions,” they added, “the importance of investing in comprehensive, agile compliance programmes has never been greater.”

McGuireWoods associate Chelsea Smith Press also contributed to the chapter.
