McGuireWoods Houston partner Durham McCormick, co-leader of the firm’s Renewable Energy Practice Group, has been named a finalist for Energy Attorney of the Year in the Texas Legal Awards presented by Texas Lawyer and Law.com. The winners will be announced Sept. 30, 2026, at an awards dinner in Dallas.
For more than 20 years, McCormick has advised energy clients on the tax structuring, development and financing of renewable energy projects. His practice focuses on tax equity financing, construction financing, tax credit qualification and sales, and the full range of legal issues arising throughout project development and operation.
Among his recent accomplishments, McCormick represented Peregrine Energy Solutions in securing financing to support a $317 million battery energy storage project. The transaction, which closed in November 2025, will enable Peregrine to bring its advanced battery energy storage facility into operation, further supporting grid stability, renewables integration and the transition to a more resilient energy future.
McCormick also led the McGuireWoods team that advised on tax equity financing for Sol Systems’ $345 million financing of the Tilden Solar project, a 182-megawatt solar facility in Randolph County, Illinois. The project is one of the most innovative energy redevelopments in the Midwest, transforming a 1,050-acre subsurface coal mine into a clean energy asset capable of powering approximately 33,800 Illinois homes.
McCormick writes and speaks frequently on tax equity trends in the renewable energy industry. He recently moderated panels at national conferences on topics including capital stack strategies, regional deal flow and financing trends, and tax credit transfers.
