Roy is a member of the firm’s nationally ranked Government Investigations and White Collar Litigation Department. He principally represents individual and corporate clients (including financial institutions) in criminal investigations and civil enforcement matters, including investigations by the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. He also represents clients in connection with complex civil litigation and internal investigations and advises on compliance matters.
Roy is committed to pro bono service and maintains an active pro bono practice. He represents clients in a broad range of criminal and civil matters, including in the areas of post-conviction relief, civil rights, and immigration.
Prior to joining McGuireWoods, Roy practiced law at a large international law firm in New York. He also served as a law clerk to the Honorable William F. Kuntz, II of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York.
During law school, Roy was the Editor-in-Chief of the North Carolina Banking Institute Journal, a student-edited law journal and leading banking law resource for attorneys, judges, policymakers, and scholars. He also served as the president of the University of North Carolina School of Law Class of 2018.
As an undergraduate, Roy was a two-time Academic All-American as a member of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro’s Division I golf program.

- Secured non-prosecution determination for individual client in connection with a DOJ securities fraud investigation.
- Represented major financial institution in connection with internal investigation and dispute with DOJ regarding the release of frozen assets.
- Represented numerous clients in responding to DOJ and SEC subpoenas.
- Obtained exoneration and release of wrongfully convicted client after nearly 36 years in prison.
